Your child will use the following
three strategies when they come to an unknown word during their reading.
Reading Strategies are life long skills that children will be able to use
throughout their lives.
There are 3 simple strategies for your children to remember.
- The first thing a child should do when they come to an unknown word
is give the word a try and then ask the question to themselves, Does
it make sense? This means does my guess make sense.
- The second question a child should ask him or herself is if it didnt
make sense is, Does it look right? This means does my guess
look like the print on the page.
- The third question they should ask themselves is, Does it sound
right? This means does my guess sound correct in the context of
the story?
