Professional Development Scenarios for October PIR
Replacement and Lane Change

All replacement hours must be certified by OPI or a comparable agency. An OPI certificate or other official documentation must be submitted to the Professional Development committee.

- I attend a class/conference outside of contracted hours. The
district does not pay for my expenses or registration. I can use the
units I earn for October PIR replacement or lane change, but not
both. - I take professional leave for a class for which the district pays my
registration. I cannot use the units I earn for October PIR replacement
or lane change. - I attend a conference outside of contracted hours for which the
district pays my expenses and registration. I cannot use the units I
earn for October PIR replacement or lane change. - I take a personal day to attend a workshop. The district does not
pay my registration. I can use the units I earn for October PIR
replacement or lane change, but not both. I must keep a copy of my
leave form to verify that I have used personal leave. - I take a class or workshop. I may use the credits or units for lane
change or October PIR replacement, but not both. - I take a class during contracted hours with a sub covering my
classroom and no registration fee required. I cannot use the units I
earn for October PIR replacement or lane change. - I repeat a workshop or class I’ve taken previously. I cannot use the
units I earn for October PIR replacement or lane change. - I am teaching a workshop for School District #26 during
contracted hours. I am paid preparation time. Preparation hours
equal delivery hours (e.g. a two hour workshop takes two hours of
prep time). I cannot use the units I earn for October PIR replacement
or lane change. - I am teaching a workshop for School District #26 outside of
contracted hours. I am paid for preparation time only, not for the
teaching time. Preparation hours equal delivery hours (e.g. a two
hour workshop takes two hours of prep time). I can use the units I
earn for October PIR replacement. - I am paid for professional services for the district (i.e. curriculum
development). I cannot submit the hours for replacement or lane
change. - I attend a workshop during contracted hours which is paid for by
the district. I have the opportunity to write a paper for additional credit
for the workshop. The credit is available for recertification only, not
lane change or replacement. - When necessary to defray costs, the charge for OPI units at
Lockwood - There must be 100% attendance at classes offered by the district
or no credit will be given.
3-6 hours -$25
7-10 hours -$35
11-15 hours -$50
(and multiples thereof)
* Any OPI units may be submitted to the Office of Public Instruction
for recertification.
