Certified teacher evaluation process

Supervision/evaluation is a continuous process undertaken to improve instruction, student attitude and achievement, and relationships between teachers and administrators/parents/students.

The process consists of a formative evaluation phase, which is supervisory in nature, and a summative evaluation phase, which is comprehensive in nature. The summative evaluation is aimed at presenting a summary of the data collected, the strengths and contributions of the teacher, and the professional growth observed and /or monitored during the entire period of time since the latest summative evaluation. These summative evaluation instruments will be kept on file in the building principal's office and central office.

Should deficiencies be recorded in the work performance of a teacher, the principal shall provide the teacher with specific, reasonable, written recommendations for improvement and with definite, positive, assistance including necessary time during the ordinary workday and material resources. A time frame for improvement and re-evaluation must be stated in the plan.

Evaluation of the teacher's performance shall be done by the principal/assistant principal and must be based on his/her own direct observations.

A teacher may request a second evaluation by another administrator assigned by the superintendent.

Teacher Evaluation Schedule

  1. Teachers with three or more years of experience in the district will have one written summary evaluation with a pre-arranged observation every three years.
  2. All non-tenured teachers will receive two written summary evaluations with pre - arranged observations each year.
  3. All teachers will receive a minimum of three random observations of duties and responsibilities each year.
Note: This does not limit the discretion of the principal and/or evaluator to observe and prepare summary evaluations more often.
