ITEMS FOR ACTION

A. Hiring of a Paraprofessional for the 2012-13 School Year.

Middle School Principal Gordon Klasna introduced Glynn Maddox to the board and noted that Mr. Maddox also works with the Boys and Girls club Boost program, which is an afterschool tutoring session for club children. Mr. Klasna further commented that Mr. Maddox comes with high recommendations and is a certified teacher with a political science and history major. Mr. Maddox's background check is completed and certification requirements have been met and verified.

Sue Vinton made the motion to hire Glynn Maddox as a middle school paraprofessional for the 2012-2013 school year as recommended. Jason Hamrick seconded the motion.

B. Hire a Coach for the 6th Grade Girls Basketball Program.

Superintendent Novasio reported that Athletic Director Jesse Swanke recommends that Rob DiGiallonardo be hired as the 6th grade girls basketball coach for the 2012-13 season.

Sue Vinton made the motion to hire Rob DiGiallonardo as the 6th grade girl's basketball coach for the 2012-2013 season as recommended. Peter Freivalds seconded the motion.

Trustees Susanne Vinton, Tim Sather, Caree Bernhart, Jason Hamrick, Tamara Spillum, Peter Freivalds and Don Reed voted yes; the motion passed with a unanimous vote.

C. First Student Transportation Contract.

Superintendent Novasio submitted the contract from First Student that would allow for seatbelt equipped busses. He gave an explanation of the two contracts pricings, one for the busses and the other for the new camera equipment. This contract extends an additional five years beyond the current contract which has this school year and next to fulfill.

Discussion was held.

Trustee Sue Vinton noted that First Student should have been more forthcoming and accurate on the camera prices due to the discrepancy from what was first quoted. Mr. Novasio agreed and suggested that the board could approve the bus portion but not approve the camera portion. Mrs. Vinton also questioned the drug testing requirements of the drivers as well as, why the life years seem to be exceeding the standard 12 years on the 4 wheel drive bus. It was noted that due to federal regulations applied to all commercial drivers, drug testing is a mandatory requirement. As for the 4 wheel drive bus exceeding the standard 12 life years, Mr. Novasio will ask for clarification on the matter.

Peter Freivalds made the motion to accept the First Student contract that contains the seatbelt equipped buses only, with provisions in the contract to change and clarify the wording on page 2 regarding the life of the 4 wheel drive bus. Don Reed seconded the motion.

TRUSTEE REPORTS

K-5 Principal Mike Bowman reported that as of today the district has first grade and kindergarten classes over accreditation standards. He noted that six grade enrollment is quickly growing as well. Sue asked what would be the solution. Mr. Bowman explained that the only possible solution would be to hire additional teachers or add paraprofessional support. During discussion the consensus was that with the numbers of students it would make more sense to hire an additional teacher. It was noted that there are empty classrooms available for additional classes.

No further business was discussed.

Susanne Vinton moved to adjourn the meeting. Don Reed seconded the motion.

Trustees Susanne Vinton, Tim Sather, Peter Freivalds, Jason Hamrick and Don Reed voted yes; the motion passed unanimously.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:31 p.m.
