DATE: October 2, 2007
CALL TO ORDER: Barbara Frank called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.
READING OF THE MINUTES: The September minutes were approved as distributed.
REPORT OF THE TREASURER: See attached sheets.
COMMUNICATIONS: We received one thank you noted from Stephanie Miller in the Intermediate Building.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Membership – We have had 75 staff members join the PTA this year. Annette Efta and Kim Pollack were the winners of the staff drawing for the two $50 gift cards.
Saturday Live – We made close to $500 at Saturday Live this year. We could have made more money, but we did not have enough volunteers to staff the games for the whole day. We need more people to help with the games next year.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Budget – We will look at the budget next month. At this time, our expenses are greater than our income. Barbara is going to try to locate a copy of last year’s budget to compare the two.
Teacher Requests – Teacher requests totaled close to $7000 this year. Because we received so many requests, we decided to table the library requests and have a separate fundraiser for the libraries. We also tabled the kindergarten request for an Elmo projector because the technology department might purchase one at a later date. We decided to cut the remaining teacher requests amount in half so that this amount will be closer to the budgeted amount of $2200. A motion to cut the remaining teacher requests in half was passed.
Pictures – We still need volunteers to help with school pictures. Volunteers will receive free pictures.
Halloween Dance – Should we move the Halloween dance to Valentine’s Day since there is already a school dance the week before Halloween? Merrideth made a motion to cancel the Halloween dance and move it to Valentine’s Day. The motion passed. We will call it a spring dance. The Halloween Party will be Saturday, October 27th. The 8th graders will be in charge of the Halloween party. It will be a fundraiser for their graduation party.
Food, Toy, and Clothing Drive – We still need three separate chairpersons for the Food, Toy and Clothing drive. Hopefully, we can involve the middle school in the packing and sorting of the food, clothing and toys.NEW BUSINESS:
Red Ribbon Week – There will be two middle school assemblies for Red Ribbon Week. There will also be a “town hall meeting” in the evening for
parents who are interested in seeing this presentation.
PTA Shed – We need a small group of people to organize the shed. We will meet on Saturday, October 6th at 10:00 am to organize the shed and throw away any junk.
Calendar of Events – See attached sheet.
Volunteer Coordination – Barbara passed around a sign up sheet to start a volunteer list.
Standing Rules & Bylaws – Barbara passed out copies of the Standing Rules and Bylaws to the other PTA officers. We need to read these rules and bylaws so that we can approve them at the November meeting. These rules will be added to the PTA website.
Website – All PTA officers need to send a copy of their bio’s to Deanna Kirkness so she can add them to the PTA website.
SPEAKER: None
NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be November 6, 2007 at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Paige Gottwals
