CALL TO ORDER: Sandy Hopkins called the meeting to order.

INTRODUCTION OF NEW OFFICERS/MEMBERS: Sandy Hopkins introduced the new members of the PTA and the new building representatives. They are Barbara Frank as President, Merrideth Von Holdt as Vice-President, Paige Gottwals as Secretary, and Lacy McDougall as Treasurer.

(Barbara Frank presided over the rest of the meeting.)

READING OF THE MINUTES: There were no May minutes to read.

REPORT OF THE TREASURER: Lacy recommended an audit before the new PTA members begin the 2007-08 school year. Lacy is going to check with the accounting firm that the Board of Trustees uses to see if they are available to look at our books.

COMMUNICATIONS: None received.

OLD BUSINESS:

• The PTA gave a $300 donation to the libraries to replace old/used paperbacks.
• Everyone enjoyed Teacher Appreciation week last May. The lunch was a big success.

NEW BUSINESS:

PTA memberships – Jennifer Fox suggested that the PTA provide coffee cards for all the teachers who join the PTA by the Open House. Merredith made a motion to send out a mass e-mail to all the staff informing them that if they join the PTA by September 15th, they will receive a coffee card. Dolly seconded. The motion passed.

Welcome Back for Teachers/Staff – What do we want to do? Maybe we should look into stocking the teachers’ lounges with stir sticks, sugar, coffee, etc. on a regular basis. Barbara made a motion to stock the teachers’ lounges with muffins and pastries as a welcome back on Friday. Sandy made a motion to stock the three lounges with basic necessities throughout the year. Paige seconded. How much do we spend per lounge on supplies? We decided to spend $100 per quarter ($25 a lounge).

Playground/Recess Equipment - The middle school needs some new playgound equipment. Barbara told them to put it in the teachers’ requests.

Lifetouch Chairperson – We still need a Lifetouch chairperson for his year. Dolly Fansler volunteered to help with school pictures this year.

Teacher Requests – Teacher requests will need to be turned in to Dave DeBoer by Friday, September 28th. The teachers will need to be present at the October meeting to discuss their requests. Do teachers need to be a PTA member to make a request? Yes, they should be a PTA member.

Saturday Live – Saturday Live will be Saturday, September 29th. Sandy Hopkins will be the contact person for Saturday Live. We will be having the plinko board, football toss, and Nerf archery shoot.

Halloween Party/Dance – The 8th graders will do the Halloween party this year to raise money for their graduation party. The PTA will be in charge of the Halloween dance. We will discuss the specifics of the dance at the October meeting.

Food, Clothing and Toy Drive in December – We want to do this fundraiser this year. There is such a need in the community that the PTA feels obligated to continue this fundraiser. We will work out some of the details at the October meeting.

Open House – Open House will be Thursday, September 20 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Barbara would like to have a table in each building for parents to join the PTA. We will have a drawing for two $50 gift certificates to encourage people to join.
