The Middle School music curriculum is an elective curriculum representing a fusion of the best current processes in the teaching of music.

The Middle School band is an elective course which meets separately for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and three times a week collectively as full band. A prerequisite for the course is the completion of one year beginner's band or an equivalent approved by the band director. The students are exposed to a wide range of literature from classical to jazz. The students develop the ability to employ basic concepts of good instrumental playing. The students give a minimum of four concerts per year and are given the opportunity to perform at various community settings.

The Middle School Chorus program is an elective course for 7th and 8th grade separately. The class has an emphasis on proper vocal techniques that develop the natural voice. Choral students are exposed to a wide variety of choral literatures and styles. The students give various concerts and exposure to performance settings in the Middle School setting.

The sixth grade music elective class is designed for the student who would like to develop skills and enjoyment of music in a music appreciation setting rather than a performance setting such as band or chorus. Students learn to express themselves creatively by developing skills in analysis, evaluation and synthesis through traditions which enable the student to learn new music independently throughout their lives. Students are exposed to skills in playing classroom instruments, setting texts to music and discovering how social and historical events relate to music works. This course is activity based and seeks total involvement of the student through movement, playing instruments, composing and singing.

A major goal of Middle School music curriculum is to provide students with the opportunity to develop self-esteem, self-discipline, responsibility and the spirit of cooperation in a musical setting. Students will develop a lifelong appreciation of music whether they are the consumer or the performer. Mr. Sal Scrano teaches chorus, music, and band in the Middle School.
