General music in the intermediate grades develops the basic elements of dynamics, tempo, rhythm, pitch, texture, harmony, form and style. Students express these elements through movement, speech, reading and singing. Students are also given the opportunity to play various rhythmic and melodic instruments to reinforce the basic elements and give them a sense of self-expression and creativity.

Students in the fifth grade have the opportunity to learn how to play a musical instrument. Instruction for all band instruments in fifth grade is provided by the intermediate music teacher, Mrs. Miller.
