  • Review individual team member beliefs and values
  • Compare Lockwood's Mission/Vision to MBI beliefs
  • Consensus on Middle School Mission/Vision

Minutes from

9/21/04 meeting are as follows:
Members present:  Linda Ruegsegger, Kim Pollock, Randal Rice, Brent Lipp, Mike Sullivan, Johanna Freivalds

Discussion:

Core team revisited and discussed the use of the LION PRIDE acrostic slogan first developed in June at the summer institute.

L    Listen to learn
I     Include everyone
O   Open minded
N   Neatness

P    Positive attitude
  Respect for self and others
I      Involved in own learning
  Determined to succeed
  Empathy for others

Additional discussion centered around using the acrostic slogan as our middle school's vision and how the Middle School mission and vision would fit with Lockwood School district's mission and vision as well as MBI beliefs.  We agreed that the intents of the two sets of missions and visions were not contradictory and the proposed Middle School mission and vision had the added benefit of being succinct enough to be memorable and "do-able" by  our students and staff.    After some final tweaking of syntax, we agreed that the middle school mission statement  would be:

"Where everyone is valued"

Johanna showed members a preliminary design for a web page, which spurred the discussion of having a logo designed by artist Josh DeBoer similar to the one he designed for the band.  Team members agreed that a similar logo would appeal to students and staff and would give the Middle School an easily recognizable focal point.  Mike Sullivan will contact the artist about the details.  It was decided that further web page design would await the development of our new logo.
