EXPRESSED
- Adult Authority-students not
respecting teachers, aides, substitutes etc.
- School Property-trash in the
hallways, not picking up after themselves in the classroom, at lunch
etc. Keeping their books covered and taking care of their lockers
- Hands-On/Verbal Disrespect for
each other
- Interrupting when two people
are in private conversation
- View themselves as equals to
adults (no boundaries)
- Denial issues (do accept
responsibility)
- Tardy issues
- Hands on behavior (what is,
what isn't)
- Students talking back (feeling
they've done nothing wrong)
- Inappropriate body and verbal
language
- Respect, or lack of, for substitutes
- Homeroom:
Lack of respect for class rules. Having to repeat ourselves
on this matter.
- Subtle
lack of respect for authority.
- Mistreatment
of Substitutes, Eye Rolling when being talked to by a teacher
- Lack of
respect for others property.
- Taking
each others binders, pencils, notebooks, getting in other lockers
etc.
- Listening
quietly through all announcements.
INTERVENTIONS/CONSEQUENCES
- Has to be consistent –
all levels must buy in
- Consequence needs to be consistent
- Need to educate/ model correct
behaviors for respect
- Incorporate SRO into consequences?
- Create a Student Council that
is based on leadership and give these problems mentioned above to the
kids to solve. (Montana Behavioral Initiative Team from OPI)
The idea behind this, as we have discussed, would be to build
citizenship skills and respect within our school through the leaders
that are selected.
- ISS time whenever disrespectful
to a substitute or other adult authority
- Pick up the hallway during lunch
hour etc.
- Points/Reward
System: Could be named the "Gold Standard."
It would involve rewarding students with tickets that could be used
for drawings of prizes. There would be no limit to the amount
of tickets that a student could earn before the drawing of the prizes.
It is all based on the willingness of each individual student
to show respect in our school.
- Our thought
would be to make ISS a little more uncomfortable for them, such as making
the students take part in some sort of school service. Examples:
picking up garbage, cleaning desks, other things that students
would deem unpleasant.
- Grant money
to hire supervisor for assigning community service, Saturday school
- Building:
- Continue
with PRIDE
- HR programs/respect
lessons – discussions
- Building
themes during certain time of the year-posters, quotes on doors etc.
- Team:
- Continuity
between classrooms – same cues
- Special
team units that encourage or enforce respect
- Individual:
- Taking turns to teach with
verbal reminders
- Mark-downs as negative consequences
- Positive praise
