Discussion:
The discussion of the meeting focused on the framework
for improving hallway behaviors. Strengths and various areas of
concern were discussed. Consensus for a goal statement was established
as follows:
“The hallways of Lockwood Middle School will be
a safe, quiet, and orderly environment where people interact with
courtesy and respect.”
After discussing several concern areas, the team decided to focus
on universal building concerns in the hall, primarily in the areas
of walking, noise control, and safety. Upcoming meetings will
look at expectations for each area and what strategies can be
used in teaching them.
The
LION PRIDE vision statement sparked the idea for a teaching model
tentatively called “LION LANES”. This model would
be used to teach desired hallway behavior. Imagine teaching appropriate
hallway behavior as being similar to teaching Driver’s Education
to these folks, (traffic flows to the right, no parking area,
or issuing a warning for speeding.)
Thanks
to those of you who submitted your thoughts and concerns. Your
input was appreciated.
