Have you always been a teacher or librarian?
I’ve had different jobs… dog sitter, waitress, day care provider and I worked for the City of Billings in the Traffic Engineering department for six years.
Why did you decided to be a librarian?
When I started college, I wanted to be a teacher, but since I always really liked to read, I decided to take some extra library training. Usually in Montana, if you are a school librarian, you also have to be a teacher.
Did you ever teach in a classroom?
I’ve done some teaching as a substitute, but haven’t been a full-time classroom teacher since I taught at a pre-school. I still teach kids all the time though—just from the library.
What do you like about being a librarian?
Well…I really like working with both kids and other teachers. I like helping them find things they are looking for and solving problems. My job lets me work with everybody in our building and sometimes even in the other buildings. No two days are ever the same…
What is your favorite part of being a librarian?
I LOVE learning new stuff because I am curious about lots of things. I also like finding answers to questions people have and doing research to help them out.
What is your least favorite part of being a librarian?
Probably fixing equipment and computers when there are problems. It’s kind of funny though…I like being able to figure out how to fix the problem…but sometimes it just takes too much time away from the other library work.
What’s your family like?
I’ve been married a long time and have two sons. My son Aaron is married and has two children. My younger son Ryan, is in high school.
Do you have any hobbies?
Boy do I ever…I like keeping busy doing things and going places. When I’m home I like to grow things in my garden and sunroom…I just LOVE being outside in the summer. I also like to sew and knit and my family really enjoys the fact that I like to bake homemade bread and treats.
What is your favorite funny saying?
“If you can’t be a good example, you’ll just have to be a horrible warning”
Do you have a favorite book or movie?
I read so many books that I can’t think of just ONE favorite. I really like reading teen books too, not just books written for adults… Same goes for movies, can’t really think of just one favorite.
Do you watch TV?
I don’t watch TV during the daytime…but at night I like to watch a few shows. This season I’ve enjoyed watching Big Bang Theory and Medium.
What is something that surprises you?
I don’t know if it’s much of a surprise…but I guess I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy being a grandma. Little kids can be just too honest and too funny! |
