The Extended Studies Program at Lockwood Schools shall facilitate the development of research techniques and the application of higher order thinking skills in an integrated learning environment using appropriate tools in order to help meet the individual needs of students who display strengths in the areas of intellect, creativity, specific academic abilities, leadership, and/or performing and visual arts so that they may strive to achieve their potential contribution to self and society.

Lockwood Schools Gifted Education program is designed to provide a programming model that will meet the individual needs of children of outstanding abilities who are capable of high performance and require differentiated educational programs. Students are enriched in three areas: communication arts, math, and independent study. Students are trained in research skills and thinking processes such as decision-making, creativity, and problem solving; and individual and small group investigations of real problems, in which students become “experts” through first-hand investigation activities using authentic research skills.
