Dan's 2008 Season
Dan took time off during the regular 2007 rodeo season. He did, however, participate in a few invitation-only rodeos, the Calgary Stampede, a rodeo in Australia and in eastern Canada. Dan returned to rode competition October 5th in Yakima, Washington. It seems he is not quite ready to give up on rodeo yet.
Dan's 2006 7th World
Title Pursuit
Dan started off the new year on a positive note by coming out on top in some of the early rodeo events. He had a terrific July. As of October 16, 2006, Dan was in second place in the saddle bronc standings and about $15,000 behind Cody DeMoss. Dan qualified for the NFR for the 17th time, but had a difficult time. Plagued by a series of injuries that kept him from performing at the level he desired during the 2006 season, Dan decided to not participate in 2007. Instead he will stay home in Billings and recuperate.
Dan's 2005 7th World
Title Pursuit
Dan qualified for the NFR in 2005 and finished
the 2005 season in the eighth place earning over $109,924.08.
His 2004 injury caused some lost time during the 2005 season, but he is looking forward to next year.
Dan pursues 7th World
Title in 2004
Dan's pursuit of an unprecedented
7th World Bronc Riding Championship came to an end
on Nov. 14 in a semi-final round at the Pace Picante ProRodeo
Classic. Dan dislocated his ankle and suffered a fracture of his ankle
bone. Surgery was performed on his damaged ankle, and he was told
by his doctor that he would not be able to put any weight on the foot
for at least eight weeks.
Dan finished the 2204 season in the top spot of the world standings
earning over $154,000. He
plans to be back on the 2005 circuit and will again try to break Casey
Tibb's record.
Dan Wins 6th World Bronc Riding
Championship
It came down to the wire, but in the tenth
round of the 2003 National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Dan Mortensen
won his sixth world title, tying the record set by legendary cowboy
Casey Tibbs. Dan was second coming into the competition behind Glen
O'Neill. This was the reverse of the 2002 NFR Finals when Dan was in
first place coming in and Glen was in second place. That year Glen took
the title.
Dan earned $89, 287.53 in the 2003 NFR Finals and finished the 2003
season with earnings of $219,999. Dan thanks all his fans for their
well-wishes and support! To learn more about Dan, visit the links above.

Rodeo Saddle Bronc Standings
Dan joined the Professional Rodeo Cowboy's Association in 1990. He was
named the Saddle Bronc Rookie of the Year. He also finished in the top
15 during his first year as a pro, qualifying for the National Finals
Rodeo. Over the years, Dan has won the Bronc Riding event five times and
has won in every major rodeo in the world at least one time.
One
of Dan's greatest accomplishments was in 1998 when he became the first
rider in PRCA history to win $200,000 in a single event.
Dan was the World's Top Cowboy of 1997. In order to qualify for the all-around
championship, a cowboy must compete successfully in more than one event.
To accomplish that goal, Dan rode bulls in several rodeos and earned $9,000
for these efforts. He is the first cowboy from Montana to win the all-around
championship since Benny Reynolds in 1961. Dan won saddle bronc titles
in 1993, 1994, and 1995. He also won the saddle bronc competition again
in 1997 and 1998.
At the time of the National Finals Rodeo competition in 2002, Dan was
first place in the standings. He narrowly lost the World's Championship
Bronc Riding Competition to Glen E O'Neill of Didsbury, Alberta. During
the finals, however, Dan made one of the best rides in the history of
the Wrangler NFR Saddle Bronc Riding Competition by earning a record 92
points on a horse called Painted Smile Dip.
Dan became the first roughstock cowboy in PRCA history to go over the
$2 million mark in career earnings in the fall of 2003. He accomplished
this feat at the Pendleton Oregon Round-up.
Dan receives sponsorship from Wrangler, Coors, and David Sunflower Seeds
and continues his drive to win a sixth World Champion Saddle Bronc championship
in 2003.
