| Reading- |
Please
have your child read at least 20 minutes each day. We are
working on summarizing stories, fluency and understanding.
It would help to have your child summarize the story. He/she
can tell what happened at the beginning of the story, any problems
that occurred in the story and how they solved the problems.
Your child is not too old to be read to besides reading to you
or themselves.

|
| Writing- |
We
are practicing writing sentences with proper capitalization and
punctuation. It would be helpful for your child to write stories
with a beginning, middle, and end.
First
semester, we will practice writing perfect penmanship. Second
semester, we will start learning cursive writing. We will
need lots of practice!

|
| Spelling- |
We
are using the Sitton Spelling program. Each week, you will
receive a parent letter home with skills to work on with your child
for the week. Your child will also bring home a list of spelling
words to be worked on this year. This is not just a weekly
lesson but words to be learned forever, so that he/she will know
how to spell the words whenever writing. |

|
| Math- |
We
are working on addition and subtraction facts to 18 with speed and
accuracy. We expect the children to get 20 problems right in
one minute. We will also be working on telling time to the 5
minute intervals, counting coins, and measuring with all kinds of
measurement tools, as well as problem solving constantly. |
