The Lockwood School Board was recognized as the Outstanding School Board in Montana at the annual Montana Conference of Education Leadership in October, 2007. One other school board, Monforton, shared the honor.
Over the years, the Lockwood Board has won 17 consecutive Golden Gavel awards from the Montana School Board Association. This was just one of the criteria that lead to the board's selection. Among others were community partnerships, trustee training and education, board policy, facilities/grounds programs, board and administrative collaboration, personnel, community involvement and other examples of board excellence.
Lockwood board members include Sue Vinton, Teresa Stroebe, Tim Sather, Peter Freivalds, Greg Bochy, Jason Hamrick and Becky Malenowsky. Jason Hamrick commented in an interview, "Boards change, but the criteria are the same, and to get that kind of consistency, it's amazing."
