Job Description

TITLE: Food Service Assistant
REPORTS TO: Food Service Manager
SUPERVISES (if applicaable): N/A
JOB DEFINITION OR GOAL: To serve the students attractive and nutritious meals which meet all of the USDA requirements and follow the Food Guide Pyramid, in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness and friendliness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIIES:

  1. Prepares food in a quick, efficient and skillful manner according to the HACCP Food Safety Plan.

  2. If applicable, maintains temperature records.

  3. Assists in the serving of meals.

  4. Efficiently, skillfully and safely operates and cares for appliances and equipment.

  5. Assists with any daily cleaning, dishwashing, table washing, etc., in preparation for the following day.

  6. Assists with major cleaning of refrigerators, freezers, storerooms or anything requiring cleaning as designated by the manager.

  7. Assists in putting away stocks in the cooler, freezer or storeroom.

  8. Reports to the manager any ideas that may add to the efficiency of the work in the cafeteria and kitchen.

  9. May direct and provide instructions to student workers.

  10. Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

  11. Attends meetings and in-service as required.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  2. Previous experience with quantity food preparation and service.
  3. Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.
  4. Ability to work effectively during rush conditions.
  5. Ability to adapt well to changing situations.
  6. Must enjoy working with children.
  7. Ability to maintain cooperative relationship with students, faculty, staff and parents.
  8. Current tuberculosis test required to be on file.
